The opening reception for their unique art and fashion show “heARTs & garMEnts” will be held on September 1, 2016, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm during the First Friday Downtown Art Walk.

Refreshments will be served and music provided by the very talented Brian and Doug from Common Crossing.

heARTs & garMEnts” is an art and fashion collaboration between two Maine artisans and lifelong friends.  Kelley’s original clothing designs and reconstructed vintage dresses, and Pickett’s original pen and ink artwork are both created with nature and Maine in mind.

The two women decided on ten themes for their show and each artisan ran with her individual creativity, all while inspiring and pushing each other.  “heARTs & garMEnts” is the outcome of that unique friendship and vision.

“heARTs & garMEnts” is the second Wintergreen showing for Presque Isle native and artist Jillelaine Pickett.

Pickett is a self-taught, lifelong artist.  She found inspiration in children’s books from an early age; illustrators such as Maurice Sendek and Mary Blair.  Pickett also drew a large amount of her inspiration from the stunning night skies and natural landscapes of her birthplace in northern Maine.

Jillelaine Pickett currently lives in southern Maine with an amazing daughter, wonderful husband, and their loving pack of dogs.  She is a true work-from-home mom.

Katrina Kelley has been a seamstress and designer nearly all her life.  She grew up in the Woodstock-New York area where her mother taught her how to sew at an early age.  Kelley’s mother taught her not only the knowledge of how to stitch, but also how to alter pre-made clothing, work on a budget, and how to pour her love into everything she sews.

Today, Kelley stays true to these early lessons in her business, Amphitrite Studio Clothing Company.  Kelley’s work includes reclaimed dress design, designing and sewing her own original slow fashion clothing line, sewing contractually for other companies, and doing alterations and tailoring in Midcoast Maine.  Her love of nature, Maine, and simplicity comes through in all her designs.

Katrina Kelley currently lives and works from home in Newcastle, Maine, with her husband, a woodworker and timber framer, and their four Australian Cattle dogs.  She has been a Mainer for almost 24 years.
