It was a couple of years ago when we first brought you the story that the International Cryptozoology Museum was going to open up a location here in the Bangor area.

For many years, the museum was open on Congress Street in Portland. Then it moved to a bigger location at 32 Resurgam Place in Portland. But recently, the museum's director, Loren Coleman, decided to start the transition to opening up a space in the Bangor area, at 490 Broadway.

The new location of the International Cryptozoology Museum is in the historic Hasey's Maine Stages Building (which was originally constructed in the 1940s) and therefore needs a little work before it can open.

Most recently, thanks to a grant provided by the City of Bangor, the old glass brick windows were restored.

Folks at the museum have also been trying to replace the aging boiler system in the building, going so far as to create a special fundraising page to take donations towards that endeavor.

Up until now, the building has been vacant since about 2018.

Coleman did open up a bookstore/gift shop on Hammond Street in April of 2022.

In the meantime, the Portland Museum is still open, and according to his website, Coleman says the Bangor bookstore location is open on weekends.

The sign in front of the building says that folks can expect the museum to open in 2024, but does not say when.
