If you love your big box stores, there's about to be one less option in Maine before the end of the year. According to Yahoo, the final two Kmart locations in Maine, in Auburn and Augusta, will close sometime in or before December as part of a larger store liquidation process that has been in place for Kmart and Sears ownership.

It looked like the Kmart locations in Maine were in danger earlier in 2019, when the company that owns it appeared destined for bankruptcy. A last minute deal saved the company, but a major restructuring was to take place. The company began evaluating each location of Kmart and Sears and then determined what locations needed to be closed.

Kmart was once amongst the most popular places to shop in both Auburn and Augusta, where it predated any Walmart locations. But trendier store options as a well as changing shopping habits by customers has left many Kmart locations feeling dated. The Auburn and Augusta locations have survived time however, thanks to loyal customer support in both areas.

The company that owns the Kmart brand has not officially announced the closure of both stores but is expected to do so in the coming weeks.
