Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs Choose Going Places as Community Project
The new bus route that is scheduled to begin in October, Going Places Network’s “The PI Loop," will receive support from two local civic organizations.
Both the Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club of Presque Isle have chosen to support building bus shelters for the PI Loop that will begin service this fall. In addition to shielding people from the elements waiting for the bus, the shelter will also serve as a potential income source with advertising options available on the shelter walls. The Rotary and Kiwanis support will help with as many as 18 shelters that vary in size and cost to construct.
The Going Places Network is a collaborative group of multiple community representatives seeking solutions to challenges the community of Presque Isle faces. Going Places selected transportation as the priority of their initial work and set a goal to develop and implement a fixed-route bus system in the City of Presque Isle called The PI Loop. The service will be operated by Aroostook Regional Transportation System (“ARTS”).
As part of the fundraising efforts, The Kiwanis Club of Presque Isle will be hosting the 2nd Annual Kiwanis Gala and Auction on October 12 in the UMPI Campus Center to help support this cause. This formal event, organized to kick-start the 72nd Annual Presque Isle Rotary Auction, signifies the third year that the PI Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs have collaborated to raise funds for a jointly-selected Community Project.
The fundraising culminates in November with the 72nd Annual Presque Isle Rotary Auction. In previous years, the fundraising efforts of both organizations have resulted in approximately $20,000 to $30,000 in support for the chosen Community Project.
