Retail Chain With 65 Locations in Maine Announces Closings
This popular discount retail chain in Maine, with over 20,000 locations across America, has announced plans to close stores nationwide.
It's always sad to hear when a business announces its closure, as it impacts not just the employees but also the customers and neighboring businesses that rely on it. Unfortunately, in 2025, these announcements have become all too common, reflecting the challenges many businesses face today.
So, given all of that, which popular discount retail chain with over 60 locations in Maine has announced nationwide closures?
Dollar General announced plans to close 96 Dollar General stores and 45 pOpshelf stores in early 2025, with six additional pOpshelf stores being converted into Dollar General locations.
The decision to close these stores follows a review of their performance, future potential, and operating conditions.
CEO Todd Vasos said these closures are part of the company's effort to strengthen its business by focusing on better-performing stores.
While these closures make up less than one percent of Dollar General’s total stores, the specific locations set to close have not yet been revealed.
It is unclear how many, if any, stores in Maine will be affected, but updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

As of March 19, 2025, Dollar General operates over 20,000 stores across 48 states, including Dollar General, DG Market, DGX, and pOpshelf locations.
This information comes directly from the company’s website.
Well, there it is—Dollar General has announced plans to close nearly 100 locations nationwide.
