The Boston Red Sox fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1 as Freddie Freeman hit a grand slam with 1 out in the 8th inning off of Brennan Bernadino.

The game was a pitcher's duel through 4 innings between Nick Pivetta for the Red Sox and Gavin Stone for the Dodgers. In the top of the 5th inning Jarren Duran who had homered in the All-Star game, hit a solo home run to lead off the 5th. It was his 11th homer of the season and put the Red Sox up 1-0.

Nick Pivetta went 6.0 innings for Boston, allowing just 2 hits. He struck out 8 and walked a batter.

Zack Kelly came on in relief and pitched a scoreless 7th inning, but only retired a batter in the 8th, walking 2 and striking out 2.

Then Bernadino came on, and allowed the "granny" to Freeman.

Boston outhit the Dodgers 9-4.

Boston and Los Angeles will play game 2 of the 3-game series Saturday night. The pregame starts at 6:15 with the 1st pitch at 7:15 on AM 1370 WDEA.
