Gas prices continue to rise, not only in New England, but across the country.

The national average of gasoline went up last week by 1.9 cents a gallon to $2.60 a gallon. That's 11.2 cents a gallon higher than a month ago and 34 cents a gallon higher than at this time last year.

According to's survey of gas outlets, prices at the pump in Maine rose 1.3 cents to $2.64 a gallon. In Presque Isle, most places were showing $2.81 a gallon Tuesday morning.

Elsewhere around New England, New Hampshire a price increase of 1.6 cents to an average $2.56 a gallon. And in Vermont, gasoline went up the most, 3.2 cents a gallon to $2.66 a gallon on average.
