In an effort to cover a $458, 533 budget shortfall, the City of Presque Isle has announced that it will shut down a few of its departments.  Each will only close for two separate days with as little interruption as possible.

The Solid Waste department will shut down on November 5th and November 19th.  The Pay-As-You-Throw trash collection will go on as scheduled.  The Public Works department will shut down on November 6th and November 20th.  If there is a storm and crews are needed, the shutdown will be rescheduled.  The Airport Director will rotate employees scheduled time off to incorporate 2 furlough days during the week of November 4th and November 18th, but the Airport will not close and there will be no interruption in scheduled flights.

City Manager Jim Bennett expressed disappointment at some decisions that have been made at the state level that have impacted city residents, but notes that shutdown days are unfortunate but necessary.
