Parenting 101 – The Preteen Sleepover
So my ‘almost’ teenage daughter got on me the other day about the fact that she never has any friends over. I told her what I thought the reasons were. She didn’t like them.
“You don’t help out. You’re room is a mess. You have four younger brothers who will bother your guest. You’ve never asked.” For the last one I got the reply, “I don’t ask because I know the answer is no.” To which I replied, “So why are you asking?” She didn’t like that. The kids are on vacation from school so tonight she has a friend over.
I’m afraid to get home and see what my beautiful, loving, intelligent human being of a wife has turned into. I know that I’ll get the obligatory “They’re all yours” followed by the bedroom door slam. I wonder how long it will take for my daughter’s guest to ask for a ride home.
