Multi-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down US Route 1 in Westfield

No one was seriously injured in a crash involving a state plow truck, three passenger cars and a tractor trailer early Monday morning on U.S. Route 1 in Westfield.

Maine State Police say a 2017 Nissan sedan operated by Dylan Noland of Linneus was traveling north around 6:30 a.m. when it clipped the plow on the front of a Maine DOT plow truck as they met on a curve. The Nissan spun around and struck a Honda sedan, operated by Janet Grivois of Grand Isle, traveling south behind the plow truck.

The initial crash ripped the plow off the DOT truck causing it to strike a Toyota sedan, operated by Michael Smith of Etna. The Toyota spun across the southbound lane and bounced off the guardrail. It was then struck in the right rear corner by a 4-axle Pepsi tractor trailer unit heading south.

Police say Dylan Noland and Janet Grivois were transported by Crown Ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries.

Route 1 near the Westfield/Mars Hill line was shut down for about an hour and traffic was diverted to secondary roads. The Pepsi truck and the plow truck were driven from the scene. The three cars had to be towed away.

The Aroostook County Sheriff's Office assisted Maine State Police at the scene.

It was snowing at the time.
