A 43-year-old man was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for drug trafficking in Maine.

James Valiante from Linneus was given 36 months with three years supervised release. He pleaded guilty in August 2024 to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Trafficking in Maine
Valiante trafficked drugs in Aroostook and Penobscot Counties between January 2018 and December 2021.
Drugs Arranged by Coded Texts and Messages
The U.S. Attorney's Office said Valiante “regularly arranged to obtain quantities of the two drugs from other members of the conspiracy through phone calls and texts using coded language and then distributed those drugs through a network of dealers.”
Drug Trafficking Conspiracy Charges
The widespread northern Maine drug trafficking conspiracy has led to 22 people charged and 20 sentenced.
