Man Sentenced after Fight with Police & Gun Possession in Maine

A 61-year-old man and convicted felon was sentenced in U.S. District Court for possession of a firearm in Maine.

Pleaded Guilty

Jeffrey Barnard from Millinocket was given time served, approximately 22 months, with three years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty on March 3, 2025.

Physical Confrontation with Police

The East Millinocket Police Department said Barnard got into a confrontation with officers after a traffic stop for a suspended driver’s permit in March 2023.

Gun Found in Jacket Pocket

Two officers and a citizen helped apprehend him. A .22 caliber revolver was found in his jacket pocket after a police search.

Felony Conviction for Armed Standoff

Barnard is precluded from having a firearm due to a felony conviction in 2017 related to an armed standoff in Ellsworth, said the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Chief Investigators

Investigating the case was the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the East Millinocket Police Department.
