U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri introduced the American Worker Rebate Act in July, a bill that would send rebate checks using money from President Trump’s tariff policies.

Hawley said the plan would give hard-working Americans relief after what he called years of economic strain under President Biden, allowing them to benefit from revenue generated by Trump’s tariffs.

The proposed plan would give rebate checks similar to the COVID stimulus payments, with each eligible adult and child receiving at least $600.

That means a family of four could get up to $2,400, though payments would phase out for higher earners, starting at $150,000 for families, $112,500 for heads of households, and $75,000 for single taxpayers.

Hawley noted that future credits could grow if tariff revenues surpass current expectations, with the U.S. already pulling in nearly $30 billion a month.

Projections show annual revenue could top $150 billion, and while Trump has suggested rebates of up to $5,000 per household, no specific amount has been endorsed.
