People in other parts of the country don't necessarily value Spring like we do in the Northeast. When it's always warm outside, a slight temperature change isn't a big deal. But in Maine, where we endure blizzards, wind chills, and black ice, Spring brings relief. It's finally time to get outside and bask in the warmth.
Long Maine Winters Make Spring's Warmth Extra-Special
I never really considered how long our winters are because I've always lived here. So I argued with my New Jersey-born husband when he complained about Maine's 6-month-long winters. That is, until I did the math. It often snows in late October, and could still be snowing into April. Yup, just about six months.
But Spring has always been special to me. It was when school let out for the summer, and I could spend the warm days riding my bike around Brewer. When I got into college, Spring was when it became more of a joy to walk across the UMaine campus to my classes.

I've already started shopping for flowers to put in the yard and my husband is planning out his vegetable garden. The ice scrapers are stored in the shed, along with the snow shovels, and my wind catcher has reclaimed its place in the yard.
Spring is here, and with it some of the best parts of living in Maine. Check out the list and then put a bottle of sunblock in your glove compartment, because you never know when you might need it.
