A Edgecomb woman has been charged with giving her 13-year-old daughter brownies laced with marijuana.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says 49-year-old Jennifer Becker was charged last Monday with furnishing marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child. She was freed from jail on unsecured bail.

Police say they started investigating the mother after the Maine Department of Health and Human Services' child protection center got a phone tip, and warrants were issued after consulting with local prosecutors.

Becker's bail conditions include no contact with her daughter, who is now staying with her father. She's expected to appear in court next month.

Becker told WGME-TV in Portland that her daughter "has issues" and everything is "being blown out of proportion."
