The Maine Centers for Disease Control announced on Friday that patrons who ate at the Mai Tai Restaurant in Presque Isle on May 26 or June 2 may have been exposed and at risk for contracting Hepatitis A.

The individual who is reportedly infected served both food and drink at the Mai Tai on the given dates. The CDC says anyone who ate or worked at the restaurant between 11:00 am and 4:30 pm on June 2 should get a Hep A vaccine by Sunday, June 16.

Once exposed, there is a window of 14 days during which a person can be vaccinated. After that the treatment is no longer effective. Anyone who visited the restaurant on May 26, 2019 is outside the window, but they should watch for symptoms and seek medical attention should they develop symptoms.

Symptoms of Hepatitis A that people should watch for include:  abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, joint pain, yellow skin, itching or clay colored stools.  Those displaying these symptoms should see their primary care provider.

With plenty of vaccines in stock, AR Gould Hospital will provide vaccines at the North Street Walk-In Clinic in Presque Isle from 8 am to 8 pm daily until all of those who may have been exposed are treated.
