I think I've found the most remote hike in Maine you'll experience this fall.

Sitting pretty all hidden way out in the northern Maine woods is a place called Lobster Lake and yes, it is as remote as it sounds.

We’re talking about a destination where getting there is part of the adventure.

The lake sits east of Moosehead Lake and south of the Golden Road, more than 100 miles from the coast.

And there’s a pretty funny reason it’s called Lobster Lake, just look at it on Google Maps and you’ll see the lake is literally shaped like a lobster claw and only reachable by canoe! Because apparently Maine names its lakes based on what they actually look like.

But the real reason to put this one on your radar is Lobster Mountain.

The hike to the mountain’s outlook is only about 1.5 miles from Lobster Lake, making it a manageable hike once you’ve made the journey into this remote corner of the state.

Carter Coy shared these gorgeous photos from his visit to Lobster Lake on Facebook.

At the top, you’re rewarded with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and lakes, including Moosehead Lake and Big Moose Mountain.

And on a clear day? You can even see Katahdin!

The catch is that this isn’t exactly a “park the SUV and start walking” kind of hike. Getting to Lobster Lake involves paddling in, which means this is much more of an adventure than a quick afternoon trail.

Honestly, that might be the best part.

No crowded parking lot. No traffic noise. Just a canoe, a remote Maine lake, a mountain trail and one heck of a view.

And now I really want to go.
