Maine governor Paul LePage raised a few eyebrows on Friday night when he tweeted out a message of support for relieving the student debt burden in Maine, something that his political opponents have been fighting to achieve for years.

The governor tweeted "To help our young people, we need to relieve the student debt burden. This in investing in the future of our state & our children. There is nothing better to help our people & employers. We should also give a tax credit to employers for helping pay off student debt."

The tweet drew reaction from all sides of Maine's political spectrum.

The Governor's tweet about student debt seemed to coincide with his visit to an event honoring Jobs for Maine Graduates' 25th anniversary.
