Houlton PD Officer Jasmine Cyr was on routine patrol traveling south and had pulled into a business parking lot around 7:30 p.m. to turn around, according to a news release Monday from Sgt. Chad Fuller.

As Officer Cyr pulled back onto U.S. Route 1 north from the business’ driveway, she didn’t see the southbound SUV and her pickup was struck head-on, Fuller said. A large snow bank obscured the view to the north and appears to have contributed to the crash.

The driver of the SUV, 42-year old Monica Jones of Amity, and two young passengers were transported by ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

The 27-year-old Cyr, from Oakfield, was transported to the Houlton hospital with head injuries. State Police say all parties involved in the crash were wearing seat belts which, along with airbags, are credited with preventing more serious injuries.

Trooper Adam Bell is the investigating officer. Houlton Police and Houlton Fire and Ambulance also responded to the scene.
