How A Forgotten Purchase in Rural Maine Turns Into A Story Of Integrity
Frequently, Maine Police Departments post photos of people they are looking for who have committed a crime. Many of them are people walking out of stores without paying for what they have. This is an incident, however, where the person made a mistake, but took care of it.
Guild's Country Hardware
Guild's Country Hardware is a small town family-owned hardware store in Livermore, Maine, and has been in business since the 1970's Kelly-Ann Mercier is the current owner of the store, after buying it from her parents in 2014.
I love the Livermore and Livermore Falls area. Lots of great people and a great community. I hosted a local version of The Price is Right at Livermore Falls as a fundraiser and made a lot of new friends while having a great time.
Leaving Without Paying
On June 6, 2025, a man bought some items at Guild's Country Hardware but didn't pay for them. A post went up on Guild's Country Hardware's Facebook page about the incident:
Thanks, everyone, for sharing so that the right people would eventually see this.
To the gentleman in the picture below, we appreciate your purchase of a chore boys today and it was a nice gesture to leave the $2.06 in change. It seems you forgot to pay for at least a head lamp, knife, and possibly a few other items. If you could kindly return to the store and pay for the items you forgot to pay for it would be greatly appreciated. We would be happy to start the transaction with a $2.06 store credit.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!
An Honest Mistake
The gentleman...called back and paid for the forgotten items. We certainly appreciate the right thing being done. Let’s all work together to make better choices and hold each other accountable.
