Coffee, Cops & Conversation: Maine Police Departments Host ‘Coffee With A Cop’ Events Wednesday
Local law enforcement officers across the state will be taking time to stop, sip, and simply be with members of the community on Wednesday, and they're asking you to come and join them.
They're hoping for a relaxed vibe in which conversations can take place, questions can be fielded and trust begins to be built.
It's all part of the "Coffee with a Cop" initiative.
"Coffee with a Cop" was originally started in Hawthorne California in 2011 and has grown to a national level, and now even an international level over the past decade.

"Coffee with a Cop is on a mission to improve trust and build relationships – one cup of coffee at a time...Community policing has long been considered a framework for establishing trust between the community and the police...The key to Coffee with a Cop’s growing success is that it opens the door for interactions outside of the crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together."
The Maine Coffee With A Cop events fall in line with a national "Coffee With A Cop" campaign going on across the U.S. and are taking place in towns all over.
Here in Eastern Maine, both the Bangor Police Department and the Holden Police Department will be hosting events.
In Bangor, the event will take place at Bagel Central at 33 Central Street starting at noon.
According to Officer Liz Ashe with the BPD,
"Come join the fine Officers of the Bangor Police Department in the heart of the downtown for a cup of free coffee and conversation. The goal of this event is for the citizens of Bangor to meet and interact with Bangor Officers in a relaxed atmosphere in the spirit of community-building. This event is just one in a series of Coffee with A Cop events the PD will be hosting around the City throughout the year. All community members are encouraged to attend."
In Holden, members of the Holden Police Department will be gathering bright and early at a local market.
"We are excited for our annual Coffee with a Cop Day. The event will be held at G&M Family Market/Dunkin’ in Holden on Wednesday, October 4th, from 0700-1000 a.m."
