As Aroostook County is once again being thrust onto the world sporting stage, officials are also marking the start of 2016 with a visible launch of the countdown calendar that notes the remaining days to when the competition gets underway at the Nordic Heritage Center.

Event organizers placed the numbers four and zero on the newly installed countdown calendar on the Katahdin Trust building on the corner of Main and North Street in the Star City. Katahdin Trust is one of the regional event partners. January 1, 2016 marks forty days to the start of competition on February 11.

The event organizing committee felt the bank location offered a number of strategic advantages, including the fact that it sits at the intersection where many area residents turn to drive out to the Nordic Heritage Center, the site of the upcoming World Cup.

The number on the calendar will decrease each day as the event gets closer. Upwards of 300 world class athletes, both male and female, from over 32 countries are expected to be in Aroostook County for the competition.
