The legendary blues artist Muddy Waters had a famous song that summed it up pretty nicely. 'The Blues Had a Baby and They Called it Rock and Roll.' The seeds of rock and roll were planted in the cotton fields and the legendary blues artists were the Moms and Dads. There are a lot of classic rock songs out that are remakes or re-inventions of classic blues tunes.

Maybe it's because I'm reading Buddy Guy's memoirs but I've been digging into the blues more lately than usual, which is a lot. I got to thinking of some of the obvious blues covers and some you may not have known. These are songs that started out as blues songs but rock bands took them and made them their own. Let's face it, Led Zeppelin were the great thieves of rock and roll, essentially reworking a song and putting their names on it and never giving credit to the original.

We'll be talking about and playing some on the show today and if you think of one feel free to add to the list at 764-ROCK. Hit us up on Facebook too.
