2014 Maine Police Academy Graduation

Friday was graduation day for many new officers in Maine, and several officers will be joining police forces here in Aroostook County.

Maine’s 56 newest police officers have graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro.  The new officers, who come from the local, county and state ranks, have spent 18 weeks at the academy in study and training.

Among the many topics the officers studied were crime scene processing, emergency vehicle operation, first aid, traffic and criminal law, domestic violence and sexual assault.

Congratulations to the new officers that will be serving Aroostook County:

Michael T. Delena, Fort Kent Police

Lucas J. Hafford, Presque Isle Police

Nathan T. Chisholm, Van Buren Police

Luke W. Blackstone, Washburn Police

The officers from the state agencies will have additional training before they begin patrolling, sometime next year.

The graduation speaker was Superior Court Justice William Stokes, a former deputy attorney general. Stokes told the new officers, “You bring the constitution to life every day  and you are the first step in implementing the Bill of Rights. Congratulations to committing yourselves to serve your communities.”
