
Woman Faces 20 Years for Illegally Growing Marijuana in Maine
A 30-year-old woman pleaded guilty to maintaining a residence to grow and distribute marijuana in Madison.
Pleaded Guilty to Charges
Jiamin Liao from New York City entered a guilty plea on Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor. She faces charges for maintaining a marijuana-involved premises.
Woman Did Not Have License
Liao did not have a Maine Office of Cannabis Police license to operate the property.
Facing Up to 20 Years in Prison
She faces up to 20 years in prison with a $500,000 fine.
Search Warrant Executed
A search warrant was executed on the property in March, 2024 and another location in Norridgewock.
551 Marijuana Plants Found During Search
The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office seized 551 marijuana plants, growing equipment and chemicals.
30 Pounds of Processed Cannabis Seized
Liao was taken into custody at the Norridgewock property. Deputies found at least 30 pounds of processed marijuana.
Woman Admitted to Processing, Packaging and Storing Marijuana
She admitted to law enforcement that she used the Madison location to process marijuana. She said she packaged and stored the drugs in Norridgewock.
Multiple Agencies Involved in the Investigation
The lead investigators in the case were the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations and the Somerset County Sheriff's Office.
