A Westfield man accused of leading police officers on a high-speed chase through the Lincoln area has been arrested.

Lincoln Police say a car driven by 33-year-old Don Hanson of Westfield reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour on Wednesday before they put out spikes and ended the chase in Greenbush.

The incident began when a motorist traveling into Lincoln along West Broadway from Enfield called 911 and reported a Ford Mustang driving erratically. Police caught up with Hanson, who failed to stop the car, thus starting the 28-mile chase.

After the car chase, Hanson fled on foot into the woods, but police took two women who were in the Mustang with him into custody for questioning. They are not being identified because they are considered victims.

Hanson wasn’t found until Thursday at around 10 a.m., near where he was last seen. Police say Hanson broke into a garage for shelter and clothing.

Hanson is facing charges including  eluding an officer, failure to stop when signaled by police officer, exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 mph or more and driving to endanger, all misdemeanors, police said. He was also charged with multiple other driving infractions.

The police investigation is continuing. State police have identified Hanson as a suspect in a burglary of a garage in Greenbush and the women have extensive criminal records.
