United Way Invites Citizens to ‘Stuff the Bus’
From now until August 7th, Aroostook County citizens are invited to take part in the annual “Stuff the Bus” event coordinated by United Way of Aroostook by donating basic school supplies to students in Aroostook County.
People can visit WalMart in either Presque Isle or Houlton to purchase and/or drop off items such as crayons, pencils, colored pencils, sharpeners, highlighters, notebooks, filler paper, backpacks, folders, and binders. Large collection boxes are placed at the main entrances/exits of the stores.
All supplies collected will be given to school aged children through an ACAP application process and additional supplies will be given to Aroostook County schools to benefit even more children.
TownSquare Media will be live-on-location at the Presque Isle Wal Mart on Friday, August 4th from 2pm-6pm, talking with agencies and donors about the importance of supporting children as they begin a new school year. The collection bus will be at the PI location from 4pm Friday through Sunday, August 6th.
“As a community, this program gives us the opportunity to ensure that all students have the supplies needed to be prepared and ready to learn on the first day of school,” said Amy Murchison, Family Engagement Specialist for ACAP Early Care & Education.
Last year, United Way of Aroostook collected $20,000 in supplies that were in turn shared throughout the County with children and schools. To apply for a backpack and supplies, please contact Aroostook County Action Program, a United Way of Aroostook Partner Agency.
