A section of I-95 was shut down near Medway late Wednesday night after a tractor trailer hauling potatoes caught fire.

State Police responded to the scene around 10 p.m. Firefighters from Medway and Mattawamkeag worked to extinguish the blaze, which destroyed the trailer full of potatoes.

Both southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down near mile marker 240 and the Maine Department of Transportation was alerting motorists of detours.

Mattawamkeag Fire & Rescue said on social media that the trailer broke in two. Emery Lee & Sons of Millinocket was called in to help with the cleanup of the highway.

There's no word on injuries or what caused the fire. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
