The Body of a 73-Year-Old Missing Kayaker Recovered in Maine
The body of a 73-year-old kayaker was recovered from Frenchman Bay in Bar Harbor around 10 pm Saturday night.
Body Recovered in Water of Bay
The Maine Marine Patrol said the body of Dennis Webber from Colorado Springs, Colorado “was located in the water by National Park personnel near The Thrumcap,” a small island near Seely Road.
Man Launched Kayak for Solo Trip
Webber had launched his kayak for a “solo trip” at the end of Seely Road around 4:30 pm.
Family Called Police when he did not Return Home
Family contacted the Bar Harbor Police Department around 8:30 pm after Webber did not return home. The Maine Marine Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Park Service conducted the search.
He was Wearing a Lifejacket and Kayak Not Found
Officials said he was wearing a lifejacket when his body was recovered. His kayak had not been found.
Pronounced Dead on the Pier
Webber’s body was taken to the pier in Bar Harbor where EMS personnel pronounced him dead.
Chief Medical Examiner
“Mr. Webber’s body has been transported to Jordan Fernald Funeral Home and will be examined by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner’s Office,” said the Department of Marine Resources.
