One of the things I love about Maine author Stephen King is that despite his success and celebrity status, he's a true Mainer.

I remember sitting in the bleachers at a basketball game when I was in college in Bangor 35 years ago, and King was just two rows behind me enjoying the game. If you weren't paying close attention, you might not have even spotted him, because he blended in with all the other Mainers. I of course was starstruck, but I didn't say anything to him and let him watch the game.

Even though he spends his time in Florida in the home he bought in 2001, having turned his iconic Bangor home into an archive for King's work and as a retreat for writers, he always finds time to come home to Maine. What better time to come home than during the Fryeburg Fair?

Several people spotted King enjoying Maine's largest agricultural fair walking around the grounds and of course, getting some delicious fair food. Dave Lavasseur took this photo of Stephen King grabbing a sausage sandwich and it was posted to the Fryeburg Fair's Facebook page on Friday morning.

Whoever was behind the post took the time to make it clever by working titles of King's books into the post.

The 2025 Fryeburg Fair is going to be a milestone. It will be their 175th year. Some quick math skills (using a calculator) tell me that the very first Fryeburg Fair was in 1850! Maybe Stephen will be back for the celebration.
