Tourist season has officially begun here in Maine which to some is very fruitful and to others very invasive. While tourists do flood off of cruise ships, highways and airports to explore Maine, what they don't know is that they're going to all the wrong places.

Sure, your typical iconic land marks are worth spending a day at like Acadia National Park or downtown in Bar Harbor, but it's all the little places in-between that are the real adventure.

Here's 6 indifferent towns to explore instead that you're going to love. Especially since they won't be full of tourists running around in straw hats and flower button ups. These are my favorite alternatives:

Brooklin, ME (not Brooklyn!) – Quiet Coastal Magic

Kingfield, ME – Mountain Town Vibes

Eastport, ME – Way Downeast Grit & Charm

Liberty, ME- Lakeside Slow Life

Stonington, ME – Hidden Island Heritage

Monson, ME- Artsy & Rugged Gateway to the North Woods

All of these places have their own unique touch to them but there's still one thing they all have in common; they're beautiful. Brooklin, Maine is a known town, but not everybody knows it actually sets the scene for a perfect kayak ride with the crew.
