The Aroostook County Sheriff's Office says 53-year-old Gary Bouchard of Van Buren was driving west in a 1991 Kenworth loaded with potatoes when the truck swerved onto the soft shoulder. The truck rolled onto its side, dumping the load of potatoes.

Police say Bouchard was wearing his seat belt and was not hurt in the crash. Deputy Corey Saucier responded to the accident around 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Maine DOT helped out with traffic control for several hours as the area was being cleaned up. The Department of Environmental Protection  was also on site to assist as needed.

The Sheriff's Office says Beaulieu’s Garage in Caribou brought three tow trucks to get the potato truck back on its wheels and towed away. The truck is believed to be a total loss.
