A 13-year-old girl has died after suffering serious injuries in an accident involving a school bus in Dorchester, New Brunswick on Tuesday afternoon.

The RCMP, Ambulance New Brunswick and Dorchester Fire Department responded to the accident on Woodlawn Road sometime after 2:30 p.m.

Unofficial reports indicated that the girl may have fallen or jumped from the school bus, although exactly how that happened is under investigation. Police said the girl was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. RCMP reported she passed away on Wednesday.

Anglophone East School District acting superintendent Pamela Wilson said the accident involved a student from Dorchester Consolidated School. In a letter to parents and guardians, Wilson said, “Our thoughts and hearts are with the families, students and Dorchester staff.”  The school was closed on Wednesday and grief counselors were available for students and staff.

The Sackville RCMP is investigating.
