Portland Band Receives Visit from David Bowie: Hear The Songs They Recorded
The frontman of a Maine band says the group of musicians was surprised when rock legend David Bowie walked into their studio more than 15 years ago.
Dave Gutter tells The Portland Press Herald the Rustic Overtones was recording an album in New York in the summer of 1999 and chose to work with Tony Visconti, a producer who was known for collaborating with Bowie.
Gutter says the band members didn't believe Visconti when he said he asked Bowie to come to the studio, and were stunned when he showed up one day.
He says Bowie recorded vocals for two songs and spent time with the band members.
Bowie died Sunday at age 69 following an 18-month battle with cancer.
