Maine State Police and Auburn Police detectives arrested Gage Dalphonse Wednesday afternoon and charged him with murder in connection with 42-year-old Jean Fournier’s death.

Fournier was shot at the Auburn Walmart parking lot around 7 pm, July 27th. He was treated and transported by Auburn Fire Department to Central Maine Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Detectives and members of the Evidence Response Team were at the scene, working with Auburn Police.

Detectives said they have been thoroughly investigating the incident, conducting numerous interviews, and following up on information provided to them.

Maine State Police Sgt. Lucas Hare said at a press conference Wednesday, "At this point, all we're willing to say is this was not a 'road rage' incident, as has been originally reported."

An autopsy by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office showed that Fournier died as a result of the gunshot wounds and the manner of death is classified as a homicide.

Dalphonse is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.

Dalphonse is expected to be arraigned on the murder charge Friday, August 2nd at 8:30 am in Androscoggin Superior Court.

Police said they do not consider this to be a random act of violence, and do not consider the community to be at risk.
