There are no plans to prosecute the infamous North Pond Hermit – at least not yet.

Earlier today, Kennebec County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney said that she would not be immediately seeking an indictment for Christopher Knight when she meets with the grand jury at the end of the month.

That’s because Knight’s attorney has arranged with the DA’s office to not proceed with a formal indictment until after his client is subjected to a psychological evaluation.

“We are not going to seek an indictment,” said Maloney. “We’re going to wait for the psychological evaluation to be completed and wait until the next grand jury.”

The order to assess Knight’s mental condition was signed by the judge last week and should take about a month to complete, according to Maloney.

As it stands, Knight has been charged with Class C burglary and Class E theft by unauthorized transfer, in addition to several other charges.

It is believed that Knight is responsible for committing more than 1,000 burglaries while living in the woods.
