He's the grey shorthair who calls Mount Washington Observatory his home, continuing the legacy of felines living at the summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire.

Nimbus Joins the Mount Washington Observatory in 2021

According to the Mount Washington Observatory, Nimbus came from the streets of Oklahoma, joining the observatory in 2021.

He does live there year-round, and MWS says that he likes the warmth inside but does go out in nice weather, sometimes hiding in some of the small caves in the rocks.

The friendly cat enjoys hunting for mice as well as interacting with staff and visitors.

"If you're walking around and you're not giving him attention -- in the sense that like, he knows you're right there and he knows you have a free hand to pet him -- he'll kind of rub up against your leg and start meowing," Summit operations manager Rebecca Scholand said in an interview with NHPR. "He's definitely a chatty little guy."
