The Most Dangerous Animals in Each New England State
When you think of New England, you don't often think of it as a place with dangerous animals. Compared to other states in the county, New England's dangerous animals are usually not an issue unless provoked. Other states have to deal with sharks, snakes and alligators. Makes me glad I live in New England!
There are only two animals in the New England states that are deemed be the most dangerous according to ranker.com.
Moose
The states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont list moose as the most dangerous animal in their state.
The reason why Moose are number one is because the males can become very territoral, during the rut, which is the mating season, and it happens every fall. Cows are highly defensive of their calves and will attack anyone that gets too close for comfort.
Moose are not normally aggressive, but they can charge without warning and you don't want to be around for that. If a moose is found running around a city like one did in Auburn recently, they can be a dangerous if they end up running into a moving car trying to find their way back to the woods
White Tailed Deer
Massachusettes, Connecticut and Rhode Island's most dangerous animal is the white tailed deer. They too can be agressive, but not nearly as agressive as the much larger moose.
The danger here is deer collisions. Deer move fast, especially when they are crossing a road. There are even some signs on the road on Route 26 that warn drivers of high-hit deer zones, where you may never see the deer coming at you until it's too late. Be alert and aware of your surrounds as best you can in these zones.
