Motorcyclist Died after Police Pursuit & Head-on Crash in Maine
A 42-year-old man died after a motorcycle crash with a tractor-trailer following a high-speed police pursuit on Route 93 in Waterford.
Head-On Crash with Tractor-Trailer after High-Speed Pursuit
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said Thomas Welch from Porter died after he lost control of his 1986 Honda and crashed head-on with the tractor trailer.
Man Died at the Scene
Deputy Ontengco, who was engaged in the high-speed police pursuit, and witnesses administered CPR and first-aid. Welch died at the scene from his injuries.
Truck Driver not Injured
The driver of the 2025 Peterbilt, 52-year-old Shawn Witham from Rome, Maine, was not injured.
Tractor-Trailer Hauling Sewage from Fair
The tractor-trailer was disabled. There were no environmental concerns and the trailer was intact. The truck was hauling sewerage from Fryeburg Fair, said the Sheriff's Office.
