Police in New Brunswick say a woman who was reported missing earlier this year had crossed into the United States two years ago, and her case is now being investigated by police in Maine.

The RCMP says 52-year-old Tracey McLean Smith of Moncton was reported missing on January 23 and at that time had not been in contact with her family for more than two years.

Mounties say their investigation has confirmed that Smith crossed the Canada-U.S. border at Houlton, Maine in 2017 and there are no reports suggesting she has re-entered Canada since then. In the past, the woman was known to have spent a good deal of time in the Woodstock, N.B. area.

The investigation into the whereabouts of Tracey Smith has now been handed over to the Houlton Police Department.
