Professional Soccer Star Spotted at This Maine Restaurant
There must be something in the water here in Maine, because it seems to be attracting professional soccer players.
Of course, we have our hometown team, the Portland Hearts of Pine, which just wrapped up a very successful debut season. And that has now been followed up with a cameo from a member of the United States Men’s National Team.
That would be star goalie—and the starter for Team USA at the 2022 World Cup—Matt Turner, who took a little time to hang out in Ogunquit.
US Soccer Star Matt Turner Spends Some Time in Southern Maine
Turner was spotted at the popular Ogunquit restaurant That Place a few days back during a bit of off-time for the goalie. Employees at That Place wasted no time making sure Turner got some love both at the restaurant and on social media.
It’s always fun when celebrities and sports figures spend a little time in Maine, especially when they end up in very familiar local spots. There’s nothing like telling friends and family that your favorite celebs dine, shop, and drink where you do.
Turner has had an exceptional career, which started back in 2013 with the New England Revolution. After spending time on three English Premier League teams—Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, and Crystal Palace—Turner ended up signing in France with Lyon, who immediately loaned him back to the Revolution, where he finished this past season.
While Turner has had a solid league career, he is certainly best known for his play on the national team, especially during the 2022 World Cup. He helped Team USA finish second in its group and qualify for the knockout round. Turner allowed only four goals across four games, which included two clean sheets.
Will Matt Turner be on the 2026 World Cup Roster?
Turner has over 50 caps for Team USA, which is a huge number for a goalkeeper. He may also be a member of the upcoming World Cup team, which will be hosted in North America starting in June of next year.

Best of luck to Matt in his future soccer endeavors. I’d love to see him as part of the squad in the upcoming Cup. And a big thanks to him for supporting some great local joints here in the little ol’ state of Maine.
