A 41-year-old man faces up to 20 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Wednesday to drug trafficking fentanyl in Maine.

Ethan Bubier from South Portland pled guilty in U.S. District Court in Portland. He also faces a maximum fine of $1 million followed by three years to life of supervised release.

Knife and Paraphernalia in Vehicle

Bubier was arrested in August 2023 after police found drug paraphernalia and a knife in his vehicle.

Drugs and Cash Seized during Search

Officers searched his backpack and found 20 individual packets of fentanyl powder, a scale, and empty plastic bags. Police also found six additional packets of fentanyl as well as $1662 in cash. Investigators recovered more than 264 grams of fentanyl.

Large Narcotics Purchase

Law enforcement also searched his cell phone and found messages related to a large purchase of drugs several days prior to his arrest. Police also found messages to potential buyers on his phone.
