
Man Charged after trying to Hide Drugs in Police Car in Maine
A 48-year-old man was arrested Monday and charged after he tried to hide a bag of drugs in a police cruiser in Bangor.
Drug Trafficking Charges after Trying to Hide Bag of Drugs
Thomas Pope from Orono was taken into custody after a traffic stop on Union Street around 9:30 pm.
Drugs Seized in Vehicle
Pope was on bail and officers searched the vehicle. Drugs were located and seized.
“Squirming Around in the Backseat”
In the cruiser, on the way to the Penobscot County Jail, Pope was “squirming around in the backseat,” said Bangor PD.
Plastic Bags with Drugs Found in Cruiser
Police found a plastic bag with several smaller plastic bags inside the cruiser, according to WGME News.
Car Video Showed Man with Bag of Drugs
Pope told police the drugs were not his. Video inside the car showed him removing the bag from his pants and tossing it in the backseat. The bags had heroin, fentanyl and meth.
Multiple Charges
Pope was charged with aggravated drug trafficking and violation of conditions of release.
