Hernia Hill Road
Hernia Hill in Carrabassett Valley is a steep road where vehicles would struggle to get up. It was named in the 1960s to reflect the toll it took on drivers who had to push their vehicles uphill. It was named after Maine’s E911 Initiative.
Skittery Gusset Road
Skittery Gusset Road in Falmouth was named after Maine slang for a nervous or jittery person. It may have Native American origins. It is a popular street name for locals who say they find the expression funny. The exact reason behind the name is unknown.
Easy Street
Easy Street in Canaan is a classic street name. It was named by locals during the E911 Initiative. The irony of the name is the road is rugged and not so easy to travel. As with many funny roads, Maine humor played a big part in calling it Easy Street.
Mansion Road
Mansion Road in Hollis is named after the famous and historical Locke Mansion. The home was built in 1903 and is considered by many as one of the state’s most elegant mansions. The road’s name is another E911 Initiative. It was specifically called Mansion Road after the Locke Mansion.
