Maine’s Most Popular Breakfast: The Undisputed Best in America
People love to say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Not only do I agree, but I also endorse breakfast for lunch and dinner.
Breakfast food is unmatched. Sweet treats, savory meats, delicious starches, and the versatile egg dominate the plate, delivering the highest level of bliss. I would go so far as to say: never trust anyone who is above enjoying a few eggs and toast for dinner. I mean, what's more American than that?
I bring this up because I recently stumbled across an interesting article on this very topic. The popular folks over at Kitchen Journal created a list of every state's most popular breakfast meal. It’s a Herculean lineup of signature dishes just waiting for diners to devour with glee.
What is Maine's Signature Breakfast Meal?
Maine's choice is an absolute grand slam (no, not the Denny's meal). It's a perfect combination of two Maine staples that come together to create a dish fit for any citizen of this great state. I'm talking about Maine Blueberry Pancakes with Maple Syrup.
What a great choice for us. Who doesn't love soft, golden flapjacks loaded with wild blueberries and covered in the nectar of the gods, maple syrup? And I'm not talking about that fake stuff that's basically just corn syrup. I'm talking about the real deal, the kind that came straight from your neighbor's tree.
I'm imagining a bite of this right now, a nice big chunk of blueberry pancake, with a touch of butter on top and a beautiful coating of syrup. I might just have to make this for dinner tonight.
Plus, there's the added bonus of health benefits. Sure, there's a lot of carbs and sugar, but those wild blueberries are no joke.
Blueberries are one of the Healthiest Superfoods
According to Verywell Fit, these little berries are loaded with antioxidants that can help improve brain function, fight inflammation, decrease cancer risk, and even potentially lower the risk of a heart attack. Blueberries are readily available, making them a true all-star. This breakfast is literally keeping you alive. I don’t think you can say the same about corned beef hash, or just a big plate of scrapple.
I should also mention that even though maple syrup isn’t exactly healthy, it is a healthier alternative to refined sugar or anything made from corn. This meal just keeps getting better and better.

While Maine is easily the best choice, there are other states with some wonderful signature dishes. Big props go to New Mexico for its green chili stew with a side of warm flour tortillas. Now that’s a meal.
