Maine Woman Charged with Making Threats at Seabrook, NH Walmart
🔴Threats were made to the store directly and in a call to Seabrook Police HQ
🔴The NH State Police bomb squad checked the store while it was evacuated
🔴Police told WMUR Meghan Leavitt, 38, of Alfred, made the calls to distract police from arresting her boyfriend at Dick's Sporting Goods
A Maine woman charged with making threats to the Seabrook Walmart store late Saturday morning was trying to distract police away from her boyfriend who had shoplifted at another store.
Seabrook Police Lt. Timothy Mone said a bomb threat was called into the store on Lafayette Road around 11 a.m. A few minutes later a call was made to Seabrook Police headquarters about a man walking around the store with a gun. Walmart and several other stores at the Seabrook Commons shopping center were evacuated.
A search of the store by the New Hampshire State Police bomb squad turned up neither and the store was reopened around 1 p.m.
Several hours later police located Meghan Leavitt, 38, of Alfred on the property of the Best Western Hotel on Spur Road across the street from Seabrook Commons. She was charged with false reports as to explosives (felony); false reports to law enforcement (misdemeanor); false public alarm (misdemeanor); criminal threatening (felony); possession of controlled drug (felony).
Leavitt is being held at the Rockingham County House of Corrections in Brentwood pending an arraignment Monday morning.
Police: Threats were a disraction
Mone told WMUR that Leavitt made the calls from the back of an Uber vehicle to distract police from arresting her boyfriend on a shopping charges at Dick's Sporting Goods, another store at Seabrook Commons. She already tried to distract police from arresting him once, according to Mone.
The driver overheard the calls and notified police.
"We're thankful to him for sticking around and flagging us down and letting us know. That was really a big piece of the investigation," Mone told WMUR.
