Maine Will Issue The Most Deer Hunting Permits in History For 2018
Maine state biologists with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife are recommending that the Department issue as many as 85,000 hunting permits for deer this year, which accounts for a 28% increase from 2017, and would be a record number for the state.
News Center Maine is reporting that the biologists are confident that the state's deer population is both healthy and robust enough to handle that many permits in one season, because more permits will be issued for the central and southern parts of the state. Many deer survived the winter, and permits will be trimmed back in northern Maine.
The proposal allows hunters to take and harvest deer of either sex. This proposal will be reviewed by the state government, and a final decision will be made this summer, for the fall season.
