I remember it like it was yesterday. I had my learner's permit and was trying to rack up as many hours as possible over the summer so that I could send in for my road test for my license.

While we were looking for different destinations around the state of Maine that my dad and I could ride to, he proposed the idea of driving to the Verona Bridge. To be fair, its actual name is the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, but we've always called it 'the Verona bridge.

A one-of-its-kind bridge situated in coastal Maine, this massive cable bridge connects the small town of Prospect, Maine with Verona Island, just outside of Bucksport. What makes this bridge so spectacular isn't just its size and height.

People travel from all around New England (and the world) to go up in the westside tower of the bridge from epic 360 degree views of the Penobscot River and surrounding towns.

According to information about the bridge from Maine.Gov, the Penobscot Narrows Bridge is home to the tallest public observatory in the entire world. Additionally, it's situated right next to historic Fort Knox.

The bridge features a nearby picnic area complete with tables and grills and a covered pavilion where people can host gatherings and even weddings with the bridge as a gorgeous photo backdrop.

I’ve always thought this spot had something for everyone. Tourists and locals are drawn to its unique vibe, the history behind it, and the incredible views. And if you’re into engineering or transportation, the design alone is worth the trip. The bridge has even won awards and really is a one-of-a-kind structure.
