Crews Battled an Early Morning Fire at Augusta’s Senator Inn

Fire crews in the Augusta area spent the early morning battling a fire in a vacant portion of the Senator Inn.

Flames Were Shooting Through the Roof When Crews Arrived

Just after midnight Friday morning, crews from several departments responded to a fire at the Senator Inn on Western Avenue in Augusta. When crews arrived, they found a motel-style portion of the facility in flames. Chelsea Fire-Rescue was among the mutual aid departments that responded to the call and they posted dramatic photos of the fire on the department's Facebook page.

The Fire Affected a Vacant Portion of the Hotel

Augusta Fire Officials confirmed that the portion of the facility affected by the fire was vacant and they say no one was hurt. Pictures of the operation show firefighters checking all the rooms in the motel to ensure no one was inside. The fire was contained to the attic space and roof of an area known as the Governor's Wing. This portion of the hotel had been undergoing renovations.

Officials Say They Plan to Rebuild the Affected Units

Augusta's Senator Inn has been a part of Maine's Capital community since the 1950s and has expanded over the years from a traditional hotel into a hotel and spa. According to the Kennebec Journal, the portion of the facility affected by the fire is typically used to house seasonal workers and hotel officials say the intention is that they will rebuild. So far, there's no determination of the financial impact of the loss.

The State Fire Marshal's Office has ruled the fire accidental.
