Maine’s Go-To Fast Food Revealed—And It’s Exactly What You Think

Maine is undoubtedly one of the top culinary destinations in America. Its impeccable food scene offers everything from fresh seafood to delicious farm-to-table cuisine.

It’s a privilege we shouldn't take for granted. Believe me—there are many regions in the country that pale in comparison.

Fast Food Continues to Grow in Popularity

But even with Maine’s incredible local restaurant scene, there’s still a place for good old American fast food. Sometimes you just need something quick, crave a Big Mac and fries, or, let’s be honest, a few drinks lead you to some much-needed fried chicken.

Maine may not have the largest variety of fast food chains, but there are still plenty around. Chances are, you pass by several on your daily commute—whether it’s to work, school, or somewhere else.

I bring this up because I recently came across an interesting article highlighting each state's most popular fast food chain. Published on the popular site All Recipes, the article takes a look at which chains dominate in different parts of the country—including right here in Maine.

All Recipes used data from the International Driver's Association, which analyzed popular search terms from 2023 to determine the rankings.

So, what topped the list in Maine? Of course, it was Dunkin' Donuts.

How could it not be? There's nothing more New England than starting your day with Dunkin’. It certainly helps that there seems to be one on nearly every corner in every town across the state. Honestly, I think I could walk to three of them from where I’m writing this article—and there’s even one in the building.

This might be the least surprising data I’ve ever seen. It’s like finding out water is wet.

What are New England's Most Popular Fast Food Chains?

It’s also worth noting that Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire joined Maine in choosing Dunkin' as their most popular fast food chain. Vermont opted for its homegrown Ben & Jerry’s, while Connecticut went with Five Guys.
